  • Installing 73 kWp of solar PV. They consumed 68,336 kWh (electricity) in 2022 and this reduced to 14,310 kWh in 2023.
  • Installing ‘all energy’ metering as part of the solar PV installation and this includes a sub meter for our workshop. They get real-time consumption, self-consumption from the PV as well as grid exports.
  • Purchasing REGO-backed green electricity only.
  • Installing a free to use EV charger for staff and visitors. They are looking to roll this out with a 12 bay EV charging station once planning is approved.
  • Replacing lighting with high efficiency LED in office and workshop areas.
  • Eliminating the use of fuel oil by using electric-only hot water.
  • Replacing their lorries regularly so they are less than 3 years old; >90% are Euro 6.
  • Reducing the amount of paper/ printing through staff awareness campaigns. They now use 77.4% less paper (2023), compared to 2019.
  • Installing vehicle telemetry, which means the number of driver poor driving incidences has reduced by >25%.
  • Installing software that will allow them to report the weights of all waste collected and distances travelled, so they can report emissions per job completed.
  • Avoiding sending waste to landfill.
  • Reducing single-use plastics.

Supporting Biodiversity

The Lanz Group recognises that their business has both a direct and indirect impact on biodiversity and ecosystem services.

As part of their programme to support biodiversity, the organisation has engaged with The Bee Centre to find ways of enhancing opportunities for bees and other pollinators both on and off-site. The Bee Centre is the home of sustainable and ethical beekeeping in the UK and a centre of excellence for bee-related breeding, husbandry and education.

Part of this programme includes the installation of a honeybee colony at the Bee Centre’s flagship training and ecotourism facility near Chorley, Lancashire. The colony comprises British honeybees which are specially bred by The Bee Centre and are based on our native dark bee (Apis mellifera mellifera). These bees have been locally adapted to be resilient and well suited to local seasonality and habitats. The bees are busy pollinating wild flowers and crops to enhance our natural environment.
